WHO ARE WE?

The Waiuku Community Recycling Centre is run by Waiuku Zero Waste Ltd. This was a joint venture between the Waiuku and Districts Community Workshop Trust and Raglan/Whaingaroa’s waste success story, Xtreme Zero Waste. We are contracted to Auckland Council.

Xtreme Zero helped us over our first four years and now Waiuku Zero Waste is entirely locally run as an  independent operator, thriving in a network of successful zero-waste operators around Aotearoa.

OUR COMPANY

Waiuku Zero Waste Ltd. is a New Zealand owned company with charitable status. Any profits we make are reinvested into succeeding in our zero waste mission.

ABOUT WAIUKU & DISTRICTS COMMUNITY WORKSHOP

The Waiuku and Districts Community Workshop Trust was set up in 2013 after originally starting as a Mens Shed. We reformed to allow women to become members too. As well as diverting around 48,000kgs of timber from landfill every year, it has been a training ground and production shed for many locals. The source of props for film and television shows, and assisted with many community projects.

WHO SUPPORTS US?

Waiuku Community Recycling Centre sits on land owned by Auckland Council. We are contracted to Auckland Council as the pilot site in a growing network of Community Recycling Centres around Auckland.

By 2025, there will be twelve sites around Auckland. Together, we are working out how to maximize the benefits of reducing waste in our communities.

We are supported in our goals by being part of the nation-wide Zero Waste Network New Zealand.
